Assistant Coach Ready Cohort: Six Sessions and a Mock Committee Before the Carousel
The coordinator job, or the first head job, usually goes to the assistant who could explain what they would do with a program, not just a unit. Most assistants have never been asked to, never built the file, and have no idea how they read to an athletic director. The Assistant Coach Ready Cohort fixes that before the December carousel, in front of the people who do the hiring.
Ten assistants. Six live sessions over twelve weeks, August through October. Weekly work between them. It ends with a capstone mock committee of sitting athletic directors who interview you and score you on the rubric real committees use.
Who it is for
Position coaches and assistants who want the coordinator or associate head coach job, and coordinators who want their first head job within two cycles. If you have never sat across from a committee, this is where you do it first.
The six sessions (90 minutes each, live by video)
- 1. How the market reads you. Your seat, your tree, your attributable results, your network. What committees see now and the realistic next step.
- 2. The Value Add file. Separating what you did from what the program did, finding the numbers, naming the confirmers.
- 3. Thinking like a head coach. The six-part program plan, built for a real target, and the roster and staff questions you will be asked even for a coordinator job.
- 4. The interview. The seven committee questions, the four-part answer, and live practice with feedback.
- 5. References, your network, and the first call. Who a committee will call, what they will say, and the twenty-minute phone call that decides whether you are a candidate.
- 6. The capstone. A mock committee of sitting athletic directors: interview, a short case presentation, teach the room. Scored independently and debriefed.
Between sessions
- A weekly email with the work for the week, the resource that goes with it, and feedback on what you submitted.
- The Teaching Cycle, included, for the teach-the-room session.
- The Problem Set, included.
- Nine peers at the same stage who will tell you the truth about your answers.
What you leave with
- A Value Add file, a reference portfolio, a program plan for a real target, and seven answers you have said out loud to people who hire.
- Written scores and feedback from athletic directors on how you come across.
- Athletic directors who have seen you work before your name ever comes up in a search.
